If you have the urge to catch a popular event in the entertainment world, catch live hip-hop music during this summer’s most anticipated rap concert. Jun. 5, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. located in Downtown Memphis at the FedEx Forum.
Aubrey Drake Graham who records under the mononym Drake, is a Canadian recording artist and actor. In June 2009, Graham signed a recording contract with Lil Wayne’s Young Money Entertainment Group. Drake is a well-known multi-platinum artist who has sold millions of albums worldwide. He tours all over the world most recently, Europe.
“Memphis’ urban community will appreciate Drake’s second-time appearance here in Memphis, Tenn,” said Mike Sullivan Manager, Event Services.
Drake is a very talented artist. He is known for featuring on many of today’s hottest artist. In addition to making his own music, Drake has also written for other artists in the industry such as Alicia Keys, Jamie Foxx and more.
“We have tried to book Drake numerous times but his schedule is just too busy,” said Genesha Dorris, Arena Operations and Booking Assistant.
In addition to writing for other artist, Drake has worked with several other hip-hop artists such as Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy, Kanye West, Eminem, and Jay-Z. With the success of his mixtape turned EP So Far Gone, Drake has been nominated for several awards including Grammys, even being selected to perform at the 2010 Grammy award ceremony.

The FedexForum is an indoor arena located in downtown Memphis, Tenn. and opened its doors for action in September 2004. This arena is owned by the City of Memphis, and cost approximately $250 million to build. It is named after Fedex because the company is headquartered in the city. Each year FedexForum plays host to hundreds of sporting events, as well as many more concerts, shows, and special events.

Shows like Michael Bubble and the Red Hot Chili Peppers has proved this with their concert selling out within minutes. Drake is considered a heartthrob to the hip-hop culture and is loved by many young girls across the globe. Drake will be bringing along of an impressive line-up of emerging rap stars who has as much rank as Drake: J.Cole, Waka Flocka Flame, Meek Mill, 2 Chainz, and French Montana.

The line of current University of Memphis students curled around the fountain Tuesday afternoon as the Performing Arts program displayed their scenario of 1960’s women typist.
The college of Performing Arts demonstrated the scene with blue dresses and big up-do hairstyles. The students in the 1950’s attire and red lipstick hammered away at typewriters recording student’s answers to this question: What could the university become?
“I believe the university will become more diverse with better opportunities for everyone,” stated Christina Roby, one of the women typists.
The purpose for the scene was to gather information on current students’ opinions about their school. There were many opinions from students and faculty on the future of The University of Memphis.
“Within the next 50 years the university will become “tighter” and “stronger” as an institution,” stated one University of Memphis student.
Students were given copies of their responses and students’ pictures were taken to be showcased at the performing arts gallery.
Arts Memphis provides annual support, financial oversight, advocacy and mentoring to many diverse organizations through more than 100 annual grants in nine grant categories. Arts Memphis purpose is to oversee Audience Development Initiative to enhance and build local cultural audiences.
The inaugural Memphis Fashion Weekend started with a bang this past Saturday as Memphis own stylettes woed the crowd with their runway fashion at the Jack Robinson Gallery located in Downtown Memphis.
“The Jack Robinson Gallery was packed with young women wanting to become models. This venue secures a strong place for fashion in Memphis future,” wrote Hannah Sayle, Memphis Flyer.
The night began with the spring line from Ellis Dixon. Her line was dominated by crop tops, pretty neutrals, and feminine silks and shapes. Carol Peretz introduced a spring line of cocktail and occasion dresses with sumptuous textures, feminine patterns, and bold colors. And finally, Philosophy’s spring collection wowed attendees with exquisite lace details, elegant draping, and an overall genuine quality. The joint endeavor of native Memphians and sisters, Annie Griffin and Robin Gerber now work out of Atlanta, but their line of lively, feminine casual wear, with bold colors and accessible style can be found at Oak Hall in Oxford, Ms.
Memphis Fashion Weekend presented a mix of Memphis designers along with National brands. Seven designers showcased their Spring 2012 collections. The designers include Ellis Dixon (Memphis), Philosophy, Carol Peretz, Annie Griffin (Memphis), Billy Reid, and Neil Bieff. These stores can be found with these designers: James Davis, Joseph. Kittie Kyle, Oak Hall, The Mednikow Boutique, Lavish, Southern Couture, Peria, Shop Girl and Turkoyz.
“Ellis Dixon, who now works out of New York City designed the clothes that the stylettes modeled,” stated Channing Shaw, aspiring model.
This event supports ArtsMemphis and up-and-coming models and fashion designers. ArtsMemphis is a fundraising and grant making organization that supports arts organizations, arts education and outreach efforts and leads a community-wide Audience Development Initiative to promote engagement in the arts.
“We love to promote advancement in the arts,” stated Bob Craddock, Board Chair, Executive Committee Co-Chair.

The Third Annual River City Brewers’ Festival on Beale Street
Come celebrate the 3rd annual River City Brewers’ Festival on Beale Street, Saturday March 31, 2012 from noon to 4p.m and from 6-10p.m. Tickets are $30 for each session and $55 for both sessions. Registration begins now!
The Brewers’ Festival will take place in the famous Handy Park. “The festival will provide nationally acclaimed and domestically micro-brewed ales, pilsners, stouts and everything in-between,” according to Christina Wilhite, River City Management Group. In accordance with the premier beers, some of the area’s finest restaurants will be on hand providing free samples of their signature dishes. The River City Brewers’ Festival will serve more than 100 different flavors of beer. Enjoy the experience that the festival has to offer. “There will be experts to help you distinguish the different appearances, smells, beer styles, and taste mouth feel and drinkability,” stated Christina Wilhite. Bring the beer to your nose and note the beer’s aromatic qualities. Malts are sweet, roasty, smoky, toasty, chocolaty, nutty, caramelly and biscuity. Hops are dank / resiny, herbal, perfumy, spicy, leafy, grassy, floral, piney and citrusy. Beer style is a label given to a beer that describes its overall character and often times is origin. It’s a name badge that has been achieved over many centuries of brewing, trial and error, marketing, and consumer acceptance. Our styles reflect our spin on the constantly evolving world of beer, with non-geek descriptions broken down for all to understand.
Some of the signature breweries will include Yazoo, Ghost River, Blue Ribbon, Boscos, etc. “Each ticket holder will sample fantastic beer that isn’t normally available in the area,” according to Christina Wilhite. River City Management Group, LLC has selected The Ronald McDonald House of Memphis as the 2012 Benefactor for the festival. The Ronald McDonald House of Memphis is a “home-away-from-home” for families who are in Memphis while their child is receiving treatment for cancer or another catastrophic illness at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. All families stay completely free of charge!
At last year’s event the festival supported a charity for autism. “Charities are really our main focus, our proceeds goes to the charities including the bands,” said Christina Wilhite. The River City Management Group is currently holding band auditions for the festival. The official after party will be at Rum Boogie on Beale Street.

What is the answer to our delinquent youth today? Could it be the music that enters our conscious minds. I don’t think that is the answer. Everyone is responsible for their own actions. No one can make you lose control but yourself, so with that being said, there is no reason why our people cannot make it. We are in a world today where there are endless possibilities of networking and technology. Those things within itself can make a big difference in our people’s lives. We need to become more leaders and take a stand in the Black nation #FOREVERANDALWAYS
